NSW Government Chases Coal Seam Gas Group

“The NSW government is chasing a community group through the courts for legal fees after an unsuccessful bid to block coal seam gas exploration in the Hunter Valley.
The Fullerton Cove Residents Action Group (FCRAG) last September won a temporary halt on drilling while it challenged the planning approval granted to Dart Energy by the Department of Trade and Investment.
But the bid ended up failing and now the department is coming after the group for costs, saying their action wasn’t launched in the public interest.

A spokesman for anti-CSG alliance Lock the Gate, Steve Phillips, said the government was trying to bankrupt a group of residents who had “fought bravely for years to protect their community”.”
